SimCity Societies is different from previous SimCity games as it is not a God game. In fact it can be best described as a social engineering simulator rather than a city building simulator. The main elements of the game are authority, creativity, knowledge, productivity, prosperity and spirituality. It is up to player how much he can perform while concerning the above mentioned values. Also, SimCity Societies games can be fully customizable. Player earns money for working in a city. The theme of the city is in players hand and the city will behave on the customizations made by the player.

However, unlike previous SimCity games, players do not create zones rather they put individual buildings directly. This is something new to the game. Also now the game includes paved roads, dirty roads, subways, bus stops etc. societies in the SimCity Societies are classified on the basis of their attributes such as prosperity, knowledge, authority etc described above. Some of the common societies of the game are authoritarian, capitalist, contemplative, industrialist, romantic, fun city, small town etc. Buildings in the SimCity Societies are classified into four types: houses, work places, venues and power plants.

The game got mixed response from the gaming community. Some liked the game and some don’t. Generally, the ratings for the SimCity Societies were average to poor; as poor as 3 out of 10 were awarded. Following the criticism, developers released new updates for the game including some fixes and few gameplay changes. But seriously this game is not a worth playing for the Sims games lovers.
